About Us

The orchestra was formed in 1992 by the late Ron Walker to raise money for the Chest, Heart and Stroke Foundation in honour of his late father. Ron developed the orchestra over 20 years and conducted up until his own ill health forced him to take a step back in 2014. The orchestra has raised thousands of pounds for charity over the years because of the hard work of its committee and members.

The Orchestra was proud to have Mary, Dowager Countess of Strathmore as its Honorary President until our concert in June 2018 when she stepped down after 25 years. We are pleased to announce that our new Honorary President is Mrs. Georgiana Osborne, CVO, H.M. Lord Lieutenant for Angus, and previously our Vice President.

Dr Matthias Feile is our new Vice President. Dr Feile, formerly principal cellist of the London Philarmonic Orchestra and the Philarmonia, studied medicine and is currently a psychiatrist in Tayside. He has played cello as a soloist with the TSO and we are delighted he has agreed to be our Vice President

Leader Robert Dick will be the leader for the June 2019 concert. Robert studied violin and piano at the Royal College of Music in London gaining both an Honours degree in 1997 and an Associateship Diploma in Violin Performance. As a violin and viola soloist he has performed concertos by Beethoven, Brahms, Bruch, Mendelssohn and Mozart and has toured Europe as an orchestral player. He freelances with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Scottish Concert Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Scotland.

Deputy Leader Christine Mollison is the Orchestra's Deputy Leader. Christine, who is a founder member of the Orchestra, has won the respect of her fellow musicians having served as TSO Librarian for several years.
